Headed by Ann Alexander, Devonshire Strategies offers both guidance and a laboring oar to support any who are navigating the exciting and complex world of environmental change makers. Ann is an attorney and policy advocate with decades of experience in environmental not-for-profit organizations, government, and academia.
Ann’s experience includes:
17 years at the Natural Resources Defense Council, where she served as a Senior Attorney, Midwest Legal Director, and Director of the Energy Solutions Team. Among other things –
Ann headed up NRDC’s California and Illinois fossil fuel advocacy, and in that capacity developed and lobbied for legislation governing oil extraction, worked to address issues affecting communities hosting oil refineries, and litigated multiple matters addressing the environmental impacts of fossil fuels.
Ann built the Energy Solutions Team to develop and promote supply side energy analytics, including a Climate Test to enable analysis of the climate impact of individual fossil fuel projects in the energy system context.
Ann developed and advocated for policies to ensure that the buildout of clean energy and transmission is done in a manner that is equitable to communities and meets their concerns.
During her years at NRDC’s Chicago office, Ann was NRDC’s lead attorney and advocate concerning Clean Water Act enforcement.
Helped environmental justice communities to find ways to find legal and advocacy solutions to the disproportionate impacts they face.
3 years as Environmental Counsel to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. In that capacity, Ann served as the liaison to other state attorney generals’ offices in working on joint litigation and advocacy, and developed environmental initiatives for Attorney General Madigan. Ann was the first person to hold this newly-created position.
4 years as with the Rutgers Environmental Law Clinic, where she served as a Clinical Professor of Law and Acting Director. Ann managed the Clinic’s work, budget, and fundraising; developed environmental and litigation advocacy initiatives, and taught students through direct hands-on experience.
6 years in private practice, in which she developed expertise in hazardous waste and environmental review law.
A year clerking for The Hon. Jack B. Weinstein in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
Ann received her J.D. from Columbia Law School and her undergraduate degree from Yale University.
